In a significant move to enhance energy efficiency in social housing, the UK government has allocated £1.29 billion to retrofit homes across England. This funding is part of the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 initiative, which will support 144 projects between 2025 and 2028.
The funding will be distributed across two main categories: 17 Strategic Partnership projects and 127 Challenge Fund projects. This investment aims to improve living conditions and reduce energy consumption for residents in social housing.
Key beneficiaries of this funding include the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), both of which will receive a share of the allocation as part of the first Integrated Settlements programme.
The Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 builds on previous allocations from earlier waves of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). This ongoing commitment reflects the government’s dedication to tackling climate change and ensuring that social homes are warm and energy-efficient.
As the UK moves towards a greener future, this initiative represents a crucial step in improving the quality of life for residents in social housing while contributing to the nation’s overall sustainability goals.
